Random Ramblings; Book Buying

So I'm curious. What is the general view on book buying?

I have, and always will be someone who LOVES buying books. I buy books before payday, after payday, days when paydays are needed to pay bills, days when there are no paydays in sight, and everyday in between. I spend money on books regardless of my financial situation, because to me, buying a book isn't spending money. If I go to chapters and buy a couple of books and spend 50 dollars, I feel good. If I go out with friends to the movies or out for a night on the town (this rarely happens, I'm not a bar/club kinda girl) and spend 50 dollars I feel horrible, there goes money I could have spent on books!

Buying a book, is money well spent. I can justify my spending money on adding to my library, however I know to the average bystander (and my credit card limit) I am a crazy person. I blame this mentality on my father. He always said growing up, that he would support my sister and myself reading, and would always buy us books. Now, this changed when the day came when I bought books on a daily limit, but the point is my dad drilled the thought in my head that spending money on books was money well spent.

I get a euphoric high from purchasing a new book. Every time I walk into a bookstore, its like walking into a fantasy world. Each piece of literature in there is a door to a new world, and who doesn't want a pass on their own problems for a few hours to read about someone else's? My one roommate laughs at me every time the mailman drops off a parcel at our door. Without looking at the name she'll know the box is more books for me. Well someone has to keep UPS in service.

I know that library's are a wonderful thing, and they help provide the public with books who don't share in my insanity for buying books, but personally I've never really put my library card to good use. I feel like I'm cheating on my chapters, and leaving books without a good home.

I also find the idea of second hand book stores appalling. Now, I have no problem buying books cheap there, but I REFUSE to discard my books there after reading them. What if one day I want to reread a favorite passage, or read my favorite scene over again? No, this just won't do! My dad tries to talk me into selling some books to a used book store and getting some cash back, add it to my "book fund" buy some more new books, and everyone wins. I'm not comfortable with this, my books are my "babies" and there not going anywhere fast.

Do you guys agree? Or do you think spending money on buying books isn't justifiable?

Review; Blood and Chocolate

Sorry for my lack of posting the last two days! I've been a little busy, and have been lacking on my reading lately with midterms. The blog became a victim of this tragedy. However I have bounced back, and managed to give it some CPR. Do you like the new layout? I FINALLY managed to get the 3 Column layout to work. HURRAY! I'm sure the layout will change again, but for now I like it. What do you guys think?

Review;

For anyone out there that has seen the movie before reading this book, like myself, you will be very surprised; they are two COMPLETELY different stories. The only things that remain the same are the character names, but even the end result surrounding the characters is like night and day compared to them in the book.

So, I picked up this book because I kinda have this fascination with werewolves all of the sudden. Well not all of the sudden, I have for a long time when I think about it, however this is a werewolf book and after seeing the movie I thought it would be a good read. I was surprised with myself, because I found that the book actually wasn’t really that good. I didn’t want Vivian to end up with her love interest Aidan. I found Aidan annoying, grabby, and goal orientated (in the one way all teenage boys are… hint hint). The plot was ok… Vivian does some funny things and she’s very rebellious, which is fun to read and live vicariously through. My favorite character was the bad guy, Gabriel; in fact I think he was the only character I liked because he was the only one that was honest about whom he is. Vivian was a werewolf but the whole book she tries to deny this and date a human boy, even though that reeks of trouble, while Gabriel never hides the fact that he’s badass.

It seems like this whole book deals with the inner struggles Vivian struggles with as a teenager and also as a werewolf, and her denial with the creature she either has to embrace or separate herself from. At times this book was a little boring and hard to read. Vivian can be a little mean and vicious. Alright I know she’s a werewolf but I mean vicious in the “Mean Girls” sort of way. Also, apparently this is a YA novel, which surprised me a little because Vivian seems to be way to focused on sex for a 16 year old .Yes I know this isn’t an oddity in modern times, but still it was a little dishearten and sad to read. I like to think we have a little more expectations for our 16 year old girls other than sleeping around. Right?

All in all, it was fast paced plot with lots of turns and conflicts, and I would still recommend it to fans of supernatural books and werewolves.

Why I can’t Wait;

Well first of all, I love this book just because the main character’s name is Persephone, and since my major is in Classical studies (mythology is my favorite) I feel like I’m already an instant fan. And also who can’t help but love gorgeous boys, who have a mysterious side. Also, I should be getting this book shortly, part of the Around the World’s ARC tour, which I am VERY excited for since that means I won’t have to wait till July!!

I'm so excited to start this book! I've heard lots of good things about this series, and already have the first two book from the "spin-series" entitled "Sea Glass' and "Storm Glass". Also, on the front of this cover, in small italics barely legible in this picture, Publishers Weekly raves about this book; "This is one of those rare books that will keep readers dreaming long after they've read it". Sounds like my kind of book!

A Pinch and A Punch for the Books of the Month NEW MEME

I'm not sure if there is a meme similar to this out there in the blog universe, so I'm going to start one.
